Paranormal Activity 3, the new sort of scare Revised

After reading "Cool?... Or Calculated? The Ad Campaign for 'Paranormal Activity 3'" By Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman and actually seeing Paranormal Activity 3, the subject matter of the blog, I both agree and disagree with the authors ideas of the film and its Ad Campaign. The authors use the example that the ad campaign uses visuals in the campaign that are not in the same sequence or even in the film. The authors allude that this makes the film appear to be more frightening that it really is. I saw these ad's and was frightened from just those, needless they impart intrigued me to go see the film, however it was not in full, I also went to see the film because of the other Paranormal Activity movies. Although I did notice that the advertised visuals were not all used or in sequence I did not think that this made the movie any less scary, or that the advertisements made the movie seem anymore that it really is. The article says that they are "hiding" the actual "jolts" of the movie by their "fake" ad campaign and deem it as "unfair". Rather I find this rather smart, they producers of Paranormal Activity have simply mastered the ability of marketing without giving the "jolts" of the movie away.

Noun + Wife (revised)

After Reading Here come the Baseball Wives ,I was yet again astounded by reality TV.  There's been Wives of this county and Basketball Wives when in general it’s just a bunch of rich angry women causing drama with each other living off of their husbands money.  That is not entertainment, its putting on Television the decline of Feminism. Sure every girl would dream to dress beautifully and do nothing but tan all day, however were not Barbie’s. We have brains and abilities to do anything. These women should do something productive with their lives, and that is not causing drama with the other shallow dependent women in their lives.

The article states that this Noun + Wife are just a new genre of generally bad television. I totally agree with this. "We bask in the schadenfreude of each addiction, divorce, foreclosure, argument, bankruptcy, and drunken mistake. Is this unfair? Is this shallow? Is it biased? Yes, yes, and yes. Does that stop us? No." The article also states the previous line, which better proves the degrade of feminism, television viewers are so obsessed with beautiful non-working women that even if it’s a generally terrible show, we are drawn to it.

Breif Screening Report

After a less than affectionate ending of a date, Olive was presented with an opportunity of redemption. ( in scene 25) Initially, Olive didn’t take too easily to admitting her falseness, in saying that she really isn’t crying and making up obviously false excuses for her tears, only the genuine favor of a male allows Olive to feel comfortable to redeem herself. This feeling of redemption isn’t only shown by the dialog in the scene, the music change from the previous scene from a colder electric guitar into a slower simple more uplifting music.  Olive didn’t have to fully admit her fake adulterating ways, Ted had already assumed they were false.  His assumption was based off of a childhood fake first kiss that she assisted in. Although Olive un-needing redeems herself, that is not the main topic of the conversation, rather more confessions are made. These confessions both uncomfortably, such as Todd admitting that his first kiss was Rhi, Olive’s best friend, this in away levels out Olive going on a date with Rhi’s crush, even though it disastrous. Feelings were also confessed, causing a minor amount of awkwardness, however this was hastily overlooked. Ending the scene is something that Olive is not used to, a man asking if he can kiss her, not offering money, or a need for status, rather a true gesture of emotion.  Over all the scene is rather dark with nearly no face to face conversing , however when Todd asks for a kiss, the conversation transitions into face to face and the Todd’s face become more light than any other point in this scene.  As Olive leaves Todd’s car there is yet another change in the music, the type but now louder, signifying her new power. These minor changes, signify  the redemption in Olive’s life, gaining the ability to say no, even when a man is truly respecting her, a light is shining on the right part of her life, and seeing her face to face.

"4 movies one face"

I couldn't help but to throw a little fun at Bella's main facial expression in almost all the Twilight movies. I was very surprised with The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 1, in the review they really didn't comment on the generally bad acting in my and most of viewer’s opinion. I also thought that this review gave away way too much information about the movie. Luckily I saw the movie before I read this, however if you want to save the money of going to the film just read this review. How the author ended in "bring on vampire Bella" was a good ending assuming that the reader already saw the film. However, if someone hadn't seen the film yet, this would give away the ending and the cliff hanger that most of the Twilight movies end in. Overall, this was a good review, however it should start with a warning "If you haven't seen Breaking Dawn already and want to be surprised, don't read this."

Genre, What a film type really contains

When I think "Genre" it gives me an idea of what I'm going to see, normally I don't even think deeper into the genre than, scary, chick flick or the shooting movies my dad watches. Never do I really think about the type of characters, settings or. "Looking at movies: Genre "The Western"" opened my eyes as to  how much detail goes into defining a genre. As for an overall theme western has to be civilization and the wilderness, this caused me to think to other genres and wonder if there is a common theme or conflict. My Favorite Movies, or rather series of movies is the "Fast and the Furious" which has the conflict of bad guys vs even badder guys, movies of this sort, a teenage action film, such as "Never back Down" hold true to this Bad guys vs even badder guys, as grammatically incorrect as it may be. As Western always has a conflict between civilization and wilderness, as does the "teenage action film" genre. Throughout the film these "bad boys" are causing crime but in the end bring out something good and beat the bad guy. As the western genre has the set of characters that go along with the common theme as does the teenage action film. There's always the good kid that could go either way and then the really buff guy who persuades the good kid to use evil to work against evil or violence with violence or fast cars with fast cars. When trying to compare other aspects of the western genre discussed in the film such as setting or distinct actors it allowed me to realise that these characteristics are true for the teenage action genre also. The setting is normally a dirty place where one would assume nothing good to come out of but it does. What was most surprising to me was that the looks of that actors are very similar, they might not have John Wayne in every film but their overall looks and characteristics are similar.

Beyond Watching a movie, Journal Number 2

After Watching, " Looking at Movies: Film Analysis" my eyes were opened to the many aspects of film. This Video really caught my attention, occasionally I catch a hidden meaning in a movie, however this video opens my eyes to the great meaning beyond almost every movement of a film. The great importance of the simple frame of the film, closer to the subject far away, or into their vision, was never obvious to me. I also found the contrast of films between directors and writers and their gender interesting. There was a relativity clear difference between these. The example of the abortion clinic with the tapping of finger nails in “Juno” was the example that was the most eye opening to the meanings beyond words in movies. Until watching this I would have just wondered why she keeps looking at people’s nails, now I understand that the film is going into more of a psychological view for Juno and her knowledge that her baby has finger nails already and that this is causing her a large amount of stress and contemplation.
